Call for technical volunteers/officials

Vicki Catchpole

We need you! The swimmers need you!

If you’re taking swimmers to galas, officiating can be interesting, rewarding, and a better use of time than sitting in the balcony.  You will learn a lot about competition rules and about how the sport works.  You might even help your child avoid being disqualified.

Every club needs to provide a quota of officials or volunteers, or it can get fined, or the children just aren’t allowed to enter.  Last year, we’ve had a pool with 8 lanes but had to use only 6 as we didn’t have enough officials, so the club really does need you.

The first level is Judge 1 (J1), normally the ones in white at the ends with stopwatches or checking on turns.

What is required?
It starts with E-learning of c6 hours (or much less).  To enrol there is a £20 fee, which will be reimbursed by Anaconda SC. There’s an online safeguarding course, as you'd expect as we're on the poolside with children.  You then get a Swim England membership number and you're ready for some poolside action – stopwatch, Anaconda tee-shirt and helpful advice supplied as you get mentored by our experienced officials on what to do. There is no exam anymore.

Interested?
If you are interested, or just want to find out what’s involved, please contact Perry Thomas who can run some “experience” sessions at Beacon High or Cally while your children are training, and with our qualified officials will help you along.
