A Community Club like No Other

Vicki Catchpole

Did you know how Anaconda SC is run and funded?

We would like to take this opportunity to share this and other information with you, as well as ask those who can, to offer their support.

Except for our teachers and coaches, Anaconda SC (Swim Club) is run entirely by parent/carer volunteers. Whether, members of the Anaconda Committee, qualified gala officials, gala volunteers, supporting fundraising, or helping organise swim camps, there simply wouldn’t be a club without parents and carers getting involved and making it all work.

Volunteering at Anaconda SC is a great way to get to know your local community as well as better understand and enjoy the world of swimming. It is extremely interesting and rewarding, and a great way to give something back to the club and the community in Islington.

Anaconda SC is a not-for-profit, community organisation, run for the benefit of our members and their children and we would like to ask you to consider getting involved in some capacity as there are many areas where we still need more support.

As swimmers grow up and move on, so do their volunteering parents and carers, so we are continually looking for more people to step forward to enable us to deliver excellent lessons and a vibrant squads' programme.

Whilst we have a healthy Committee composition at present, we are always looking for new volunteers to join us. If any of the areas or roles listed below are of interest and you’d like to find out more, please get in touch and email the contact person.  We’d love to have you join us as part of the team!

1. OFFICIALS & TIMEKEEPERS
All swim clubs that have children competing in galas are expected to contribute their share of qualified officials – and we need more trained volunteers to help meet our quota. Many parents who regularly attend galas have found this a rewarding way to contribute to the club, whilst supporting their children at meets. There is an online course and practical poolside mentorship to enable you to meet the requirements – all fully supported by the club.

For more information, please contact Perry: [email protected]

If we have enough timekeepers (partly qualified officials) and officials, we will be able to license our Club Championships with Hackney Aquatics, meaning that the results can count as entry times for the Middlesex County Championships.

2. FUNDRAISING
We are looking to set up a fundraising sub-committee of enthusiastic and passionate parent/carer volunteers to support our ongoing fundraising needs. Each year we need to raise significant funding, from government grants, corporate sponsorships, to raffles and events to pay for new equipment and a bursary programme, to support social economically disadvantaged families in Islington to access swimming. There will be a more detailed message coming out soon askimng for people to join the sub committee, but if you are interested, please contact Rosa: [email protected]

3. COMMUNICATIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA
We know that our communications can always be improved and we want to reach more and new people. We are looking for someone who can help drive and grow our social media more effectively to tell our local community about what we offer. If this is your area of expertise and you can spare some time to help us please contact our future Chairperson Jonny: [email protected]

4. ANACONDA COMMITTEE
We are always looking for new committee members. Our AGM is scheduled for Tuesday 20th June, 7pm at Cally pool meeting room.

We are currently looking for a parent to help co-ordinate the Swim Camp during the Easter holidays in 2024. If you’d like to know more, please contact Craig: [email protected]

If you’d like to come along and potentially join the committee please contact Bansi: [email protected]

As ever, thank you to all of you for your support.
